The Secret of Baby Carrots

The following is information from a farmer who grows and packages carrots for IGA, METRO, LOBLAWS, etc

The small cocktail (baby) carrots you buy in small plastic bags are made using the larger crooked or deformed carrots which are put through a machine which cuts and shapes them into cocktail carrots.

Most people probably know this already. Here is where you want to really pay attention. . . .

upset and Blue

Anyone else upset about being lied to about the global warming...changed to climate change? It's always been "good" to be responsible... and then they have to go and make up stories, change data and out right lie to us to make money! There is good and bad on both the right and the left... I want to stand on principle, not on a Green lie!

One More Step

Some 20 years ago, I worked with a gentleman named Ed. I considered him the most intelligent person I ever met and continue to do so until this day. He was a counselor extraordinaire and I would watch in admiration how he would work with people, weaving in and out with the perfect word, phrase or gesture, or simply allowing silence to do the talking. Of course, people responded and over time, their lives would change for the better.

I used to wonder what it would be like if I was as… Continue

Challenged Athletes Foundation and the 50 Mile Ultra

There are times in life when opportunities present itself through no effort of your own. The Universe conspires to help, the stars are in alignment or maybe God is just feeling particularly good today.

Other times, we have to take the “Napoleon approach” to life. When surrounded by his generals who were complaining that the circumstances were poor and unmanageable, Napoleon said, “Circumstances? I create circumstances!”

This week, I decided to create… Continue

When you say this word, most people think of this spice for added flavor to meats, toast or even candy. Cinnamon however, is one of the most effective, commonly used herbal substances. The part of this plant used medicinally are the dried inner bark of the shoots, and the oil distilled from the bark and leaves. Cinnamon is an ancient herbal medicine mentioned in Chinese texts as long ago as 4,000 years.

Cinnamon was used in ancient Egypt for embalming. In ancient times, it was added… Continue

Blueberry Juice

A new study done by scientists from the U. of Cincinnati Health Center showed that drinking wild blueberry juice every day improved the memory of (aging) adults with memory challenges.

Blueberries, aside from being tasty, contain polyphenol compounds with the most prominent one being anthocyanins. Anthocyanins have strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects and are associated with increased energy in the brain centers. This in turn helps considerably with memory and improve… Continue
